Carinthia, the fifth biggest state with an area of 9.533 square kilometre is the most southern state in Austria.
Carinthia verges on three other states: Salzburg, Steiermark and Osttirol.
The border of the neighbouring country, Slovenia, measures 170 km. The borderline to Italy is 109 km long.
The cultural and geographical intersection of the three countries, called the “Dreiländereck” , is located at the small village: Arnoldstein.
Carinthia, land of mountains and lakes: 93 of the mountains are higher than 3.000 meter, the “Großklockner” (3.798 meter) is the highest mountain in Austria and the 1.270 lakes and ponds do show drinking water quality.
53% of the state area is covered with forest.
